Users share their experience of the HP KEYMARK scheme: an interview with Johannes Brugmann

Dr. Johannes Brugmann is chair of Heat Pump KEYMARK scheme group and head of heat pump development at Stiebel Eltron, the first manufacturer that awarded a KEYMARK certificate for heat pumps.

1) How the HP KEYMARK can fulfil its objectives in ensuring the highest quality products in the marketplace?

The products are tested in certified test laboratories and the production is checked by independent certification bodies. Regular spot tests on heat pumps ensure sustainable quality. The scheme is based on a certification system of the European standard environment, and compliance with this procedure is ensured by the independent certification bodies.

2) What is the main difference between the HP KEYMARK and other heat pump certifications?

The HP KEYMARK certificate is based on the rules of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), which is also the owner of the certification system, as well as of the well-known Solar KEYMARK and other products. An essential feature of the certificate is that it is based on the ecodesign requirements. Already two years after its introduction in the European market, more than 370 certificates have been issued.

3) What are the main benefits that the HP KEYMARK can provide to the industry and end-consumers?

The main advantages of the HP KEYMARK are the reliable and clear rules, as well as the requirements for compliance which only refer to European standards and directives. In addition, the certificate is already recognized in many countries to this day. To the customers, HP KEYMARK offers a well-known certification mark with high-quality requirements.

4) What is your vision for the future of the heat pump technology and what role the HP KEYMARK will play in achieving that vision?

My vision is that heat pumps will become the standard for water heating, and building heating and cooling in Europe. HP KEYMARK will guarantee compliance with quality standards in terms of performance and safety.
